Copyright terms and guidelines to help you understand where your images can be used and what future benefits you may be able to secure

Copyright is an important factor to consider when thinking about modelling. The term relates to the exclusive rights of the copyright holder to make reproductions. In the instance of modelling the copyright will be held by the photographer. It is important to outline before taking part in a shoot what the terms of copyright for a model are. It is often the case that photographers will allow the images to be used by models for their own self promotion or if the photos will be included in a magazine which assists in the promotion of the model. These rough guidelines are often applicable with TFP (time for print shoots) when photographers may offer more freedom for reproduction of images to the model as an incentive for working for nothing.

Remember that the Photographer will have the rights and will see this as essential to their careers, do make sure that you respect this and try to strike a deal which helps both the photograp[her and the model if you are negotiating.
